Cuenca

Cuenca is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and perhaps the most beautiful city in South America from among those we’ve visited. This is not only our personal opinion but also the view of many Ecuadorians, even those who live in Quito, the capital of Ecuador.

We didn’t spend a lot of time in Cuenca, and we really wanted to stay longer. However, in our journey, we are almost always dependent on other people who host us or give us rides. Therefore, we often have to adjust to their schedules.

Ecuador, by the way, is one of the most hospitable countries in the world. It’s very easy to find a host and catch a ride here. Traveling here is a pleasure. But let’s get back to Cuenca. In the short time we spent here, we only managed to take a few walks around the city with our host Pedro José. We didn’t visit any attractions, but we did take some photographs.

For the first time, two more Couchsurfers joined us – brothers Brian and Joshua from Honduras.

The city’s architecture

We really love beautiful architecture. Perhaps that’s why we liked Cuenca so much. There is beautiful European architecture in the city center, and numerous beautiful modern houses beyond the center. The whole city is beautiful.

We prefer nature over cities, and that’s why we enjoy photographing nature more. However, when we first arrived in the center of Cuenca, we felt like taking a walk with our cameras in such a beautiful city, and of course, it was a good opportunity to practice street photography.

For the second time, Pedro José also joined us.

Cuenca is rich in interesting places, but in this post, we just wanted to show you this city through the lens of our camera. We hope you were able to feel its atmosphere even just a bit. We’re sure that in person, you’ll like it even more! Have a great journey through Ecuador!

National Park Cajas

While we were still in Cuenca, we went on a one-day trek to the Cajas National Park, which is located about forty kilometers from the city. We have already written about this hike in one of our previous posts, and you can read it for plenty of useful information, tips, and many photographs.
